Transforming Sentiment: Crafting a Timeless Pendant from Cherished Rings

Jane approached us with a desire to transform two cherished rings into a new piece of jewellery that would hold sentimental value. After admiring the collection of cluster rings displayed in our window, she reached out to us to explore the possibility of creating an everyday wearable item from her meaningful jewellery pieces.

Among the pieces Jane entrusted to us was a "keepers" ring, a precious heirloom that had been passed down from her grandmother to her mother, and then to her. The ring had been worn daily by her mother and grandmother, a testament to its emotional significance. However, over time, the pattern on the 14ct gold ring had faded due to its constant use. Jane also possessed another yellow gold ring adorned with five diamonds, which had been gifted to her by her aunt, whom she had cared for in her later years. While Jane held a deep sentimental attachment to this ring, she refrained from wearing it as it resembled her own engagement ring.

In discussions led by Sean from Josephs, Jane shared her concerns about another ring that required alteration due to her arthritis which had led to her finger swelling. This particular ring had been a celebratory gift upon the birth of her daughter, with her daughter's name and birth date inscribed. Jane was apprehensive that resizing the ring might compromise the inscription's integrity. Sean reassured her and suggested a resizing approach that would preserve the inscription by extending from the ring's shoulders.

With the three jewellery pieces and stories behind them, Sean envisioned a beautiful solution: crafting a pendant that harmonised her mother's and aunt's rings to match the ring bought for her on her daughter’s birth. Collaboratively, the design embodied the sentimental value of the pieces. Nic, the goldsmith, embarked on the intricate process of bringing this design to life. Meticulous details such as a hidden pendant loop, strategically placed diamonds for balance and the addition of white gold to accentuate the diamonds elegance, were carefully incorporated to enhance its beauty. Jane also wanted it to be at least fifty percent bigger than the altered ring to match.

We recently spoke to Jane about her experience and she candidly expressed her initial apprehension and subsequent awe at the transformation.

“To be honest, I was scared to death to go in and pick it up - scared I wasn’t going to like it! However, I was absolutely stunned! It brought a lump to my throat. It’s gorgeous. You can dress it up or down, it’s not just something I keep for best. It looks modern, has clean lines and is fresh - it’s absolutely spot on. I wear the ring regularly now as well and I’m so pleased.”

Jane continued, sharing her enthusiasm, "I'm delighted with the pendant and have started wearing the ring regularly as well. I've already recommended Josephs to a dear friend who recently got engaged, a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship and personalised service I've experienced."

Jane's journey with Josephs encapsulates the essence of high level expertise, emotional reconnection with sentimental pieces, and the profound impact of creative collaboration between us and our customers.
